Recent Work

September 2020

My set of work circles around the experience of dealing with absurdity under a political situation. I see the cartoon-like characters as the voices of the creator. It reflects the state of being of themselves and other people who may undergo similar experiences. Cartoon-like forms are also capable of transforming things from reality into a non-existing dimension. They are forms that are competent in dealing with ridiculousness. Somehow, the making of the works is finding a meeting point from the absurd reality and the drawings that bear an obscure space.

The series of works that I present examines the validity of a silenced voice in response to the Hong Kong protest. How does one value when there is pressure from an authority? Moreover, knowing that the opportunity to uphold freedom of speech is becoming more and more minimal? My cartoon-like drawings are contained in a still form, yet they brace a voice. I aim to provide a space where "forbidden words" are allowed to be told.
